The AG is the brainchild of Armenian-born, internationally renowned dancer, Choreographer, and Creative Director Arthur Gourounlian and his husband, Irish television presenter and podcaster Brian Dowling Gourounlian. The pair relocated to Ireland in 2020 when the Covid-19 pandemic saw a sudden halt to their busy schedules. Arthur and Brian started their new venture... CREATED FOR EVERYBODY
“The idea is taking that bold choice with the sock,” advises Brian. “Arthur’s style is very individual. I would say that I’m personally quite safe and quite preppy, and I like to draw attention to socks because I think they’re like cushions – if you’ve got a bland sofa, you can add cushions that can reflect your personality. It’s the same with a sharp but safe suit. With the design variations, there’s something for everyone, whatever your gender or style. The thick one is more sporty and the thin one would be something you’d wear for a job interview or a black tie event. The looks are quite random and bold, but they reflect who we are. We like to talk, and we like to have fun. We’re loud. And I think the socks are like that – they’re sophisticated and smart, but they’re also loud, they’re bold, they’re fun.”
ORIGINAL AND FUN
The AG is a new luxurious yet accessible brand of unisex socks with a whimsical design. The looks are inspired by the couple’s love of Art Deco and the 1920s, as well as the 1980s, with abstract faces and geometric prints the centerpiece, whether the base is a sleek black or a bright pastel. The first collection features four designs – 2 classic looks: The BDG and The Maria plus two casual looks: The Rosie and The Sadhbh all named after members of their combined families. “Family is super important to us,” says Brian. “Our families have been so supportive, and they’re all involved in the project in some way, so Arthur really wanted to name the designs after them.
